Royal Challengers Bengaluru Outshine Delhi Capitals

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) came to Delhi riding high on a five-match winning streak. Although their previous game against Mumbai Indians was a nail-biter, RCB clinched the victory thanks to Krunal Pandya’s heroics in the final over. In last night’s match, Pandya played a different role, guiding RCB to a 6-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC) and securing the top spot on the points table. DC, however, slipped to fourth place.

Delhi Capitals – 162/8

Delhi Capitals had a tough time finding their rhythm during their innings. After 17 overs, they had only managed to score 120 runs. Tristan Stubbs’ quick 18-ball 34 helped them reach a total of 162/8. KL Rahul, who had been the star performer in their last game, scored 41 off 39 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood claimed 3 and 2 wickets respectively, despite being a bit expensive. Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 193 wickets, while Hazlewood currently leads the Purple Cap race with 18 wickets.

Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, RCB’s spinners, didn’t claim many wickets but effectively slowed down DC’s batters in the middle overs. Pandya’s 13 wickets in IPL 2025 are the most he has taken in his 10 IPL seasons. Pandya still had more to offer in the game.

Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya’s Century Partnership

RCB found themselves in a spot of bother early in the powerplay, with the score at 26/3. Axar Patel took two wickets in the third over, and Karun Nair’s accurate throw dismissed RCB captain Rajat Patidar in the fourth over. However, Virat Kohli held firm at one end. The renowned chase master and local favorite took control, but interestingly, he let Krunal Pandya play the aggressor’s role. This strategy worked wonders, as Pandya scored his first IPL fifty in 9 seasons. Kohli soon followed suit, scoring his sixth fifty of the season and becoming the leading run-scorer of the season with 443 runs in 10 innings. Tim David’s 19* off 5 sealed RCB’s sixth consecutive away win with 9 balls to spare.

No team in the history of the Indian Premier League has managed to win all away games during the league stage. RCB’s final away game of the season is against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 9, making it a highly anticipated match.

Upcoming Fixtures

RCB has a five-day break before hosting Chennai Super Kings on May 3 (Saturday). DC, on the other hand, has a quick turnaround and will host Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday (April 29).
