Sanjiv Goenka’s Disappointment and LSG’s Struggle in IPL 2025
Sanjiv Goenka left the balcony at Ekana Stadium in disappointment on Monday. This came after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant’s poor performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rishabh Pant’s Struggles
Pant, bought for a huge sum of ₹27 crores, has had a tough season. He has managed only one fifty so far.
LSG’s Playoff Hopes
LSG needed to win all their remaining three matches to stay in playoff contention. Pant needed to stay at the crease longer. He promoted himself to no.3 in search of runs. Pant joined Aiden Markram after Mitchell Marsh’s dismissal for 65.
The Incident
The incident happened in the 12th over. Pant hit Eshan Malinga for a four on the fifth ball. In the next ball, Pant leaned forward to play an early stroke against a delivery pitched on the middle and off.
The ball hit the toe end of the bat and went straight back to Malinga. He took a stunning catch to dismiss the opposition captain. Disappointed with Pant, Goenka left the scene. This moment was caught on camera and quickly went viral on social media.
LSG’s Innings
Despite Pant’s failure, LSG managed to post a strong total. Openers Marsh and Aiden Markram hit fifties. They set a 206-run target against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Marsh and Markram were in top form. They put on 115 runs in the first half of the innings.
However, LSG lost momentum in the second half. Malinga bowled an impressive spell of 4-0-28-2.
Key Performances
- Nicholas Pooran scored 45 runs to help his side post 205/7.
- Besides Malinga, debutant Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, and Nitish Reddy each picked up a wicket for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad will officially eliminate LSG from playoff contention.
