A Special Message from Space
The Axiom-4 team, with India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, sent a message from space. Shukla will be the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS) in 41 years.
The team shared that they were flying over Europe. They also showed us how Earth looks from space.
Shukla’s Exciting Journey
Shukla greeted everyone from the Dragon spacecraft. He said, “Namaskar from Space. I am thrilled to be here with my fellow astronauts. What a ride it was! When I was sitting in the capsule, the only thought was ‘let’s just go.’ It was an amazing ride, and then suddenly, nothing. You were floating in the silence of vacuum.”
He thanked everyone and said this success is for all of us. He was grateful to his family and friends. With a smile, he talked about feeling a bit sick at first but is now resting well. “Enjoying the views, learning like a baby,” he added.
Meet the Crew
Shukla is with three others from the US, Poland, and Hungary. They will reach the space station at 7 am EDT. The Dragon spacecraft has:
- The leader, Peggy Whitson
- The pilot, Shubhanshu Shukla
- Experts Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski and Tibor Kapu
NASA said the spacecraft “will dock to the Harmony module’s space-facing port at 7 a.m. on Thursday.”
A Big Moment for India
After 41 years, an Indian astronaut is in space again. Shukla is the second Indian in space after Rakesh Sharma’s trip in 1984.
