SIT Investigation into Disha Salian’s Death to be Speeded Up: Maharashtra Minister
Minister of State for Home Promises Thorough Inquiry
On Thursday, Yogesh Kadam, the Minister of State for Home, promised the Maharashtra legislative assembly that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into Disha Salian’s death would be expedited. He emphasized that “no one will be spared” during the investigation.
Call for Comprehensive Probe
- The statement followed a ten-minute adjournment of the assembly due to demands from BJP and Shiv Sena MLAs for a complete investigation into the case.
- They also inquired about when the SIT, established in December 2022, would finish its investigation and submit its report.
Petition Filed by Disha’s Father
The opposition’s demand came a day after Disha’s father, Satish, prepared a petition to be submitted to the Bombay High Court. The petition seeks a new investigation into her death and the “custodial interrogation” of Sena UBT MLA Aaditya Thackeray.
Ongoing SIT Investigation
- Kadam stated that the SIT investigation is ongoing and its report has not been submitted yet.
- He added that once the state receives instructions from the High Court, appropriate action will be taken. “The law is the same for all, we will not spare anyone,” he said.
Disha Salian’s Death
Disha Salian, former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, passed away on June 8, 2020. The issue was raised by BJP MLA Ameet Satam through a point of information and supported by Sena MLA Arjun Khotkar and Sena minister Shambhuraje Desai.
Legislative Council Disruptions
- The legislative council was adjourned three times as leader of opposition from Sena UBT Ambadas Danve and minister Girish Mahajan engaged in a verbal dispute.
- The Disha Salian issue was raised through a point of information by Sena MLC Manisha Kayande, leading to the second adjournment.
- Opposition accused chairman Ram Shinde of bias, and Sena UBT MLC Anil Parab reacted strongly to the point of information.
Allegations by Disha’s Father
- Satam said in the assembly, “There is big suspicion about this case. Even after 2 years, the SIT has not given any conclusion.”
- He added that Disha’s father alleged Disha was gang-raped and murdered, and that the MVA government tried to suppress the case.
- BJP’s Chitra Wagh demanded that the SIT report be made public, while BJP’s Uma Khapre said Salian’s father, in his petition, stated the family was under constant surveillance.
