Telangana Social Welfare Schools Warn Against Admission Fraud
Parents Cautioned About Fraudulent Agents Promising Admissions
Hyderabad: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS) has issued a warning. They are alerting parents about fraudulent agents. These agents falsely claim to secure admissions into Gurukul schools. They do this in exchange for money or political recommendations.
Targeting Economically Disadvantaged Families
Officials say these unauthorized agents target families from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. They offer false guarantees of admission. A group of parents complained to TOI about such irregularities.
Admission Process Manipulation
S Ramalingam, a representative, explained the issue. “During the admission process, some seats remain unfilled. This happens because qualified students delay joining until the final deadline. It’s during this time that manipulation occurs. Several parents lost money. Many hesitate to come forward due to the sensitive nature of the issue. We are working to expose these incidents. We ensure that only meritorious students are admitted.”
Transparent and Merit-Based Admission Process
The TGSWREIS reiterated that its admission process is entirely merit-based, digital, and transparent. To strengthen transparency, the society has published the full merit list. They also published individual marks on their website. Applicants are notified through SMS and voice messages sent to their registered mobile numbers.
Reforms to Ensure Fair Admissions
A senior TGSWREIS official said, “Until last year, students only had to declare their caste and income categories at the time of application. The actual certificates were submitted after selection. This allowed room for manipulation. This year, we made it mandatory to upload valid certificates during the application process itself. That closed many loopholes, which may be why some are now attempting fraudulent routes.”
In previous years, there were complaints of seats being influenced by intermediaries or through monetary deals. In response, TGSWREIS implemented reforms in 2024. These reforms ensure that deserving students from the most marginalized and low-income backgrounds have equal opportunity.
