TMC Files Privilege Motion Against Suvendu Adhikari

Privilege Motion Presented in State Assembly

TMC files privilege motion on Adhikari over CM comments

Kolkata: On Wednesday, TMC lawmakers took a significant step. They filed a privilege motion against the leader of the opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. This motion was presented in the state assembly. It was then sent to the privilege committee for further action.

Why the Motion Was Filed

The motion came after comments made by Adhikari. He allegedly made defamatory and false remarks about Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.

BJP MLAs Stage Walkout

In a separate incident, BJP MLAs decided to walk out of the assembly. They were protesting what they called “police inaction” in the case involving TMC strongman Anubrata Mondal.

TMC MLAs Leading the Motion

The motion against Adhikari was led by several TMC MLAs:

  • Chandrima Bhattacharya
  • Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay
  • Aroop Biswas
  • Indranil Sen
  • Firhad Hakim
  • Nirmal Ghosh

Adhikari had made a statement outside the assembly on Tuesday. He claimed that the CM “praised Pakistan more eloquently than the country’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.”

BJP’s Reaction

Shankar Ghosh, the chief whip of BJP, responded to the situation. He stated, “The chief minister’s attack on MLA Agnimitra Paul inside the house on Tuesday was unacceptable. She also suggested that the Pahalgam incident was fabricated with the election in mind. This seems to favor Pakistan. If the House won’t discuss her statements, it shouldn’t consider Suvendu Adhikari’s comments made outside the assembly.”

TMC’s Defense

Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya defended the CM. She said, “The chief minister has never spoken in favor of Pakistan. The opposition didn’t complain about anything inside the House. The CM questioned the diplomatic failure to prevent Pakistan from becoming the vice-chair of the United Nations Counter Terrorism Committee. The leader of the opposition falsely claimed that she spoke in favor of Pakistan. He lied about the CM’s statement, and that’s why we filed the privilege motion.”
