Two Brothers Apprehended for Killing Neighbors During Murshidabad Riots

Elderly Man and Son Brutally Slain

Two brothers were taken into custody on Monday for the vicious murder of Hargobindo Das, aged 70, and his son Chandan, 40, during the Murshidabad riots on April 12. The victims lived next door to the accused in Jafrabad village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Shamsherganj police station.

FIR Filed Against One Brother and Five Others

  • Hargobindo’s wife, Parul, filed an FIR naming one brother and five additional individuals.
  • A mob of 150-200 armed people stormed their home and pulled the victims outside before mercilessly hacking them to death.

Brothers Captured from Hiding Places

  • Dildar Nadab was apprehended from a hiding spot near the Bangladesh border under the Suti police station.
  • Brother Kalu Nadab, also known as Asabul, was taken into custody from Murarai in Birbhum.
  • Kalu and Dildar reside in Digra, the village adjacent to Jafrabad.

Special Investigation Team Established

A special investigation team has been formed to locate the remaining five individuals named in the FIR. The team comprises officers from the local police, CID, STF, and IB. DIG Midnapore Syed Waquar Raza is overseeing the multi-agency investigation.

221 Arrests Made in Connection to Murshidabad Violence

As of Tuesday, 221 individuals have been arrested for their participation in the Murshidabad violence. Investigators are also looking into evidence suggesting that some troublemakers crossed the Ganga and fled to Jharkhand.

Allegations of Outsiders’ Involvement

Investigators have not yet commented on allegations of ‘outsider involvement’ but are examining an April 11 CCTV footage from Dakbunglow More on NH 12. The footage shows some protesters breaking away from the anti-Waqf protest and later regrouping.
