UP Assembly: Expelled SP MLAs Now Unattached
Latest Updates from Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh assembly has declared three expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs as “unattached members.” This move follows their expulsion by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav over two weeks ago.
Who Are the Affected MLAs?
- Abhay Singh, representing Gosaiganj
- Rakesh Pratap Singh, representing Gauriganj
- Manoj Pandey, representing Unchhahar
Official Statement
Pradeep Dubey, the Principal Secretary of the UP assembly, made the announcement. The three former SP MLAs are now unattached, effective July 9. Akhilesh Yadav had formally notified the assembly secretariat of their expulsion on July 5.
What This Means for the MLAs
Despite their expulsion, the three legislators retain their assembly membership. They are now free to align with any political party, including the ruling BJP.
Reasons Behind the Expulsion
Akhilesh Yadav expelled the MLAs on June 23. He cited their repeated actions against the party’s principles. Specifically, the expelled MLAs were accused of:
- Engaging in communal and divisive politics
- Supporting policies harmful to farmers, women, and youth
The Party’s Stance
The Samajwadi Party stated that the expelled lawmakers were given chances to change their behavior. However, they did not meet the party’s expectations.
