Final reminder! Free Aadhaar updates ends soon; check all you need to know before June 14 deadline

Time is Running Out!

Hurry up if you haven’t updated your Aadhaar details yet. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set June 14, 2025, as the last day to update your Aadhaar card documents online for free.

What Happens After the Deadline?

After June 14, updating your Proof of Identity (PoI) or Proof of Address (PoA) will cost you. You’ll need to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and pay Rs 50 for each update.

What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit ID number. It’s issued to Indian residents and linked to their biometric and demographic details. Aadhaar is widely used for identity verification across various services and schemes.

Why Update Aadhaar?

UIDAI requires Aadhaar holders to update their PoI and PoA every 10 years. This keeps your data accurate. An updated Aadhaar helps you avoid issues with services like banking, government benefits, or mobile connections.

How to Update Aadhaar for Free (Online)

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit: UIDAI’s official website
  2. Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP from your registered mobile.
  3. Click on ‘Document Update’.
  4. Upload valid scanned copies of your PoI and PoA documents (in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format, max 2MB).
  5. Submit and note the Service Request Number (SRN) to track your update status.

What Documents Are Accepted?

Here’s a list of accepted documents:

  • Proof of Identity & Address: Aadhaar, Voter ID, Ration Card, Indian Passport
  • Identity Only: PAN card, Driving License, school certificates with photo
  • Address Only: Utility bills (last 3 months), Bank/Post Office passbook, Rent agreement

What If You Miss the Deadline?

From June 15, 2025, all updates will be offline-only and will cost Rs 50 each. Biometric updates, like photo or fingerprint changes, will still need a physical visit.

Don’t wait until the last moment. Update your Aadhaar for free by June 14 to avoid fees and future verification issues.
