Yogesh Rana, the lawyer representing the Vadodara car crash victim, confirmed filing a Vakalatnama for Rakshit Ravish Chaurasi, who remains in judicial custody following court orders on Monday.
Rana stated, “We have filed Vakalatnama, the accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia has not applied for bail…the investigation officer presented him before the court, and the court sent the accused to judicial custody.”
Rana criticized the police for permitting the accused to speak to the media while in custody. He said, “This is a serious matter; a woman has died, and her husband is critically injured. Three people on the other scooty, including two children and a woman, are also critical…the accused gave a statement to the media while in police custody, which shows the negligence of the police.”
The Accident and Investigation
The incident on March 14 led to one death and four injuries when a speeding vehicle hit a two-wheeler.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar confirmed the detention of the accused driver and mentioned that multiple vehicles were involved. Investigators are gathering evidence and monitoring the movements of both the driver and the passenger.
- “The teams are recovering evidence from the crime scene.”
- “Police are tracking the entire movement of the driver and co-passenger of the four-wheeler.”
- “The person driving the four-wheeler is in police custody, and police have successfully tracked the movement of the co-passenger.”
- “Further investigation is ongoing.”
Although authorities registered a drink-driving case, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia denied being intoxicated during the incident.
Chaurasia explained, “We were driving ahead of the scooty, turning right, and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right… The car slightly touched the other vehicle, and the airbag opened suddenly, obstructing our vision, and the car went out of control.”
