Vidaamuyarchi Box Office Verdict: A Disappointing Run

The Film’s Box Office Journey

Ajith Kumar’s action thriller, Vidaamuyarchi, hit theaters on February 6. Initially, it showed promise at the box office, but soon saw a decline. Although it managed to stabilize, the film didn’t live up to expectations.

Underperformance and Global Earnings

Despite Ajith Kumar’s fanbase, Vidaamuyarchi underperformed at the box office. Trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan reports that the film earned around ₹150 crore globally during its entire run.

The film’s struggle can be linked to its remake status of a three-decade-old movie, making it hard to recoup the budget at the box office.

Comparison with Previous Releases

As a remake of the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown, Vidaamuyarchi fell short of the bar set by previous Pongal releases like Viswasam (2019) and Thunivu (2023). Even as a solo release, it couldn’t surpass them or Valimai (2022), which raked in ₹166 crore during its theatrical run.

Critical Reception and Mass Appeal

Mixed reviews for Vidaamuyarchi also played a part in its underperformance. While critics lauded Ajith Kumar’s performance, they found fault with the execution. Moreover, the film lacked mass appeal, which further hampered its success.

About Vidaamuyarchi

Vidaamuyarchi is an action thriller helmed by Magizh Thirumeni. The plot revolves around the protagonist’s quest to rescue his wife from a gang. The film stars Ajith Kumar, Trisha, and Arjun Sarja, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
